What's Recovery?
1. Recovery is a dynamic process.
2. Recovery is composed of stages
3. Each stage has its own development and solutions, per ex:
• Problems and decisions in certain stages can vary in difficulty
• Some stages are relatively straightforward
• Skills for problem-solving are also need in certain stages
• Certain process can hinder other solutions in stages similar to one another
Our recovery is determined by the severity of our addiction and by our social environment and also by many psychological factors. If we understand the need for recovery and the needed process to reach such a goal, then we will need to build a solid foundation for our future recovery. A few of those foundations; “building blocks of recovery” are:
Stop using any drugs and/or drinking alcohol
• Accept the severity of your addiction
• Begin to develop a positive attitude towards recovery
• Develop and understanding that recovery is a team work
• We must learn to be humble and honest in pursuing recovery
Recovery begins with total abstinence and positive attitude
When we said total abstinence we mean total abstinence. How can we accomplish total abstinence when we had been out of control for such a long time due to our drug or alcohol addiction? One of the building blocks of recovery is the development of a new outlook towards a future without drugs and alcohol as a recovery outcome. A new outlook to our future without the pressure of our addiction will help us to succeed in our recovery. However, stopping the use of drugs or alcohol is not enough. We must make a 360º turn to change ourselves. We must understand that our life style needs to change if we want to succeed in our recovery.
We must understand that while we were using drugs or drinking alcohol we don’t understand the consequences of our addiction. We don’t understand the negative effects our addictions have on us and also on those we love.
Our lack of understanding is because we are too busy trying to maintain our lascivious life style, with self-centered view as we blame everybody around us for our behavior.
As we use drugs and drink alcohol, dishonesty is part of our lifestyle, and we don’t take responsibility for our actions. And because this behavior our recovery becomes not just a challenge, but a gigantic quest. We are forced to take radical decisions and choices in behalf of our future and the future of those around us.
Understand that we need to face the reality of our addiction and their consequence is the most difficult task to accomplish at the beginning of recovery. The initial step of recovery is to face the painful reality of the destruction we left behind us due to our addiction. This is not an easy task because requires honesty and truthfulness to ourselves first, and then to those we have offended during our active addiction.
Recovery is not a task to be accomplished by one, successful recovery must be accomplished by a team effort. We can include in our recovery team some of the following elements and people:
• 12 steps meetings
1. sponsor
2. friends support
3. family support
4. Spiritual guidanc
5. priest
6. pastor
7. church
8. higher power
9. God as you understand
It’s important to understand that abstinence without proper support is worthless. It’s temporary relief from our addiction.
We specialize in a substance abuse relapse prevention plan, providing life building skills to promote continuous recovery. Holistic counseling helps continue the process offering a one year aftercare program that provides a support system, with focus on abstinence techniques and problem solving. Making a difference is our priority and goal. After completion of our inpatient program, the client continues with aftercare, which is a one year, once a week commitment at no extra cost. Aftercare groups are facilitated by our trained, certified professionals, who monitor each client's aftercare plan, revising and updating as necessary. The focus of aftercare is relapse prevention and problem solving for the client and their families
Outpatient Substance Abuse Relapse Prevention Program
Our intensive outpatient program is six to eighteen weeks long. Each client helps develop their individual treatment plan. The client attends group therapy 5 nights a week with individual and family sessions. This may be increased depending on individual need. The client is required to attend 5 NA/AA meetings per week in addition to developing a relationship with a sponsor, finding a home group and becoming involved in the fellowships social support network
Each client participates in a thorough bio psychosocial and psychological test to assess for any possible underlying diagnosis. We have found that many chronic relapses manifest symptoms of dual disorders. Medication is frequently required in these instances to help increase the possibilities for long term gains. Alternative medicine is usually the first line of defense in these cases, however clients are refered to a diferent provider because we do no provide any type of medication.
